It’s been a few days since the last A Day in 10 Photos entry. Now that I’m back in NYC, I’ll be updating daily with photos from my trip to LA for the LA Brakeless Summer Fix. Friday, unlike Thursday, was spent on the bike most of the day. A small crew of riders met at LA Brakeless and we all rode Venice beach. That’s where Wonka’s barspin took place (remember?). At any rate, seeing a real life internet meme was pretty funny.

Every time I ride in a city and there’s a group meet up at a certain time, you end up waiting around for hours. Luckily, when the meet-up’s at a bike shop, there are tons of things to keep you preoccupied.

After a lot of waiting around, we all headed southwest to Venice beach.

Meet Joe. He’s really good and before this weekend, I had never heard of him. Supposedly he does well at competitions (he won the beginner class at the Summer Fix Freestyle Comp) and from spending a few days with him, he’s got a good amount of variation to his riding.

But like all riders, Joe still falls once and a while.

Unfortunately, this time he chipped his tooth. I watched his face smack the sidewalk and the piece actually fall out of his mouth. Sucks! Later on that night, my camera was at home recovering from all the action it saw. After riding we headed to the welcome to LA party; the opening night for Summer Fix.

It’s not every day that a decent collaboration comes out. This one’s worth the note for sure. Off the Hook and Brakeless.ca teamed up to produce some tee’s, a messenger bag and a custom Marinoni. Here’s the inside scoop from Hypebeast:

In a collaborative project between two retailers, Montreal-based Off The Hook and Brakeless team-up to offer a bike-centric effort. The collection features a number of items including a Quintin-produced 5-panel, a Re-Load messenger bag, four t-shirt designs and to conclude everything, a custom Marinoni bike. The collection is available now through Off The Hook.

Rivendell makes some lovely bicycles. Petersen really knew what he was doing back when he started Rivendell Bicycle Works. One of my favorites in the Rivendell stable is the Hillborne. It’s a general, all-around, all-purpose bike, hand-made in the US by Waterford. Eco Velo snapped a few great photos of a lovely orange Hillborne right here on their Flickr. Check it out!

Pretty clever little tee design from the guys at Ash Can Collection. Here’s their description:

I still crack up when I read some comments on Flickr. Leave it up to one commentator to point out the obvious. Regardless to what technical flaws the photo may have, it’s still a rad shot of my good friend AJ doing a bar. Sweathogs GC reppin’.

Tracko had the scoop on Kinfolk‘s new project with Coat, Brooks and Kara Ginther. He also had a much nicer image than the original Wallpaper* article. That being said, here’s the PR from Wallpaper*:

So committed that we commissioned a bike that could be broken down, packed in a bespoke bag and loaded on a plane, with no excess baggage charge, and taken with us wherever we went. The project pulled in a wide range of craftsmen collaborators from the US, UK and Japan — frame builders, designers, paint specialists, saddle makers, leather carvers and bag and luggage makers — to ensure that every element of the bike was as beautifully put together as it could be.

Not a bad looking project. I’d build it up proper, that’s for sure.

What the holy fuck? Jussi, you better be joking here. Who the hell would ruin a pristine Telekom? Now I know what you’re thinking: why 8-speed Campy in the first place and sure, those Shamals are heavy as hell. Regardless as to how the original bike was built, NO BIKE deserves that fate. I’m praying this is a joke.

How awesome is this? Matt Lingo’s a stand up guy for putting it on. Here’s what he has to say about it:

This is something I’ve been planning for a while, working on it in between projects. I’m not charging for it since it’s sort of a trial run for me to see if I can make these things work and the kind of response I’ll get. I’d rather also keep it fairly informal, and I couldn’t do that if I’m charging money to come. It’s going to focus mostly on fixed gear related stuff since that’s mostly what I do now a days, so that’s what I’ll be discussing as far as business goes. Like it says on the flyer though I don’t have alot of room, so it’s first come first serve and I’m hoping anyone who’s planning to bail gets a hold of me fast to make up room for others. We’re doing the talking portions in the lounge part at Leader since that’s air-conditioned, with the shooting portion taking place in the actual warehouse. If anyone needs to come from out of town there’s plenty of room at my house to stay at.
